GIVING SOIL – WORM FLOW WORKSHOP
Sunday September 18th @ 9am-1pm
Limited numbers!
We are limiting the group size to 20 so that everyone can get some quality one on one tuition time.
Following the well attended presentation on cultivating the soil microbiome, by a soil microbiologist Dr. Sandra Tuszynska at this month’s Club Night, Permaculture Noosa is hosting a Giving Soil – Worm Flow Workshop at the Cooroy Community Gardens, on the 18th of September from 9am-1pm. The cost of this course is $50 per person or $60 per couple.
This hands-on design and construction activity of especially designed flow through worm farms (Worm Flow) aims to cultivate beneficial soil microbes which are lacking or even missing from the majority of soils. Participants will learn about, and have a go at, constructing their own Worm Flow farms for healthy and nutritious food production. Sandra will explain the science and benefits behind the system and how to operate it based on the composting worms’ biological requirements, to produce a balanced soil food web microbiome. She will also demonstrate how to utilise the resulting worm castings or vermicompost by creating a liquid extract and applying it to your plants.
To learn more about the benefits of soil microbes, especially soil fungi in soil restoration, plant nutrition and as the most effective agent in atmospheric carbon sequestration into soils, watch this short interview with Sandra filmed at the Cooroy Community Gardens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_jNGg0_UJQ. Also check out the Giving Soil initiative https://coda.io/@sandra-tuszynska/giving-soil, and find out how we, as a community can help farmers restore degraded, lifeless soils back into living biodiverse ecosystems, to which the workshop will contribute.
