Volunteers

‘How wonderful is it that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world’ – Anne Frank

Volunteer time and energy, knowledge and dedication is worth a million dollars to us. Volunteers support the club so we can support and teach our community to move towards a more sustainable way of living. Volunteers are essential and we LOVE you … honestly, the club couldn’t survive without you. We are a 100% volunteer led club, no-one is paid (except in tea and cake) so you’re in good company.

We offer our volunteers a job to do (as much or as little as they wish) and we are a great social club with gallons of cuppas drunk and acres of learning and teaching chit chat exchanged each year. So if you have ever wondered, ‘what compost system is best for my garden?’ or ‘what on earth is a swale?’ or ‘ what’s wrong with my citrus?’ or you have a brilliant idea worth sharing, please come and join us to learn, share, and help the club to grow a community space worthy of our pride.

Permaculture Noosa is registered with Centrelink for New Start participants – over 55’s who are volunteering 15 hours of their time per week (this does not have to be all with one organisation).

We have several roles needing a champion at the moment …

Volunteer Coordinator

This is a brand new role for Permaculture Noosa. We have recognised that we need a dedicated superstar to make this happen, someone who has experience working with volunteers and would like to increase our volunteer base. It will involve setting up an official induction programme for volunteers, recruitment and a fair bit of paperwork. We would ideally like someone who can dedicate 4 or 5 hours per week – you will be supported/mentored by a member of the committee and we are excited to let you make this role your own. Cooroy Community Permaculture Gardens
We meet weekly on Wednesday mornings for a working bee at the Cooroy Community Garden. Check our Permanews newsletter and out Facebook page to confirm these dates. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions while helping us develop the gardens into a fantastic public space. We have jobs for all physical levels – please come along and share your expertise or learn new skills from others.

There is a weekly plan in place and jobs include:
weeding . pruning . mulching . watering . planting . making compost . propagating plants . seed saving . general maintenance . carpentry . mowing . slashing

Monthly Club Night
We need support volunteers to provide backup to the committee for our monthly club nights at the Cooroy Memorial Hall.

Jobs include:
Setting up tables and chairs at 5.00 pm . breakdown at 9.00 pm . assisting with the library . helping with seed, produce and merchandise sales . backup at the registration tables and assisting the membership secretary . bringing a plate of food to share for supper , helping with the preparation of supper

Community Events

This year we will be running stalls at the following events:

Cooroy Fusion Festival – To be announced

World Environment Day – To be announced

Queensland Garden Expo – To be announced

Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens Plant Fair – To be announced

Noosa Show – To be announced

We require volunteers to help set up and pull down marquees and display material, and help with greeting visitors, promoting Permaculture Noosa and selling our merchandise. All roles are on a roster system and all volunteers will receive free entry to the event (if applicable).

Seed Savers and Growers
We are always seeking dedicated organic growers to help us grow particular varieties of plants so we can save and harvest non hybrid seed for our Seed Bank. So if you have a flair for growing and can happily pop in a few extra plants for us, please let us know.

And yet more …

We are looking for people experienced in sewing who can help produce some merchandise for sale, using very simple patterns.

If any of these peak your interest or you would like further information, please email us at info@permaculturenoosa.com.au
