National volunteering week 2024 ‘Something for Everyone’
Dear Permaculture Club members,
This week marks National Volunteer Week 2024, themed ‘Something for Everyone’, a moment dedicated to celebrating the diverse passions and talents that many members bring to volunteering for our club. It’s also an invitation for both existing and new members to join us in volunteering.
I want to emphasize the invaluable contributions made by our club members and other volunteers. They play a vital role in keeping our club running smoothly, and their efforts are truly appreciated. From organizing club nights, where tasks may include cooking and serving dahl and chai tea, welcoming guests at the door, and organizing speakers, to maintaining and expanding our seed bank, organizing open garden tours, library workshops, and garden maintenance, our volunteers have demonstrated unwavering dedication, passion, and effort to ensure the success of our club. Others have taken on leadership roles, such as leading the garden group, designing garden areas, creating biochar and compost, building and maintaining our pavilion, fundraising, writing articles in the local papers, maintaining our website and IT systems, creating the newsletter, managing our finances, organizing and minuting our management committee meetings, and writing policies and procedures. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to make all of this possible. You are amazing!
We’re also seeking more passionate volunteers to support our club and community. Our mission extends beyond permaculture – it’s about educating ourselves and others on sustainable food production and fostering community involvement. We are opening up our beautiful pavilion to clubs and businesses, aim to offer therapeutic gardening sessions in our garden, and pursue many other aspirational goals. But to achieve all of this, we need your help!
Understanding that not everyone can commit a whole day per week to volunteering, we’ve broken down tasks into bite-sized chunks. This way, you can contribute according to your availability and lifestyle.
