Our October Permaculture Noosa Club Night will commence with our Annual General Meeting at 6.30 pm Thursday 17 October, where we will be presenting our annual report, electing the new committee for 2019/20, and voting on some important changes to our constitution. All current financial members of Permaculture Noosa are eligible to vote.

Guest Speakers

Not all classrooms have 4 walls!

Our guest speakers will be Aaron Mears, Vanessa Schofield and Dan Deighton from the Living Classroom Project. These three incredibly energetic people run amazing school permaculture programs that set out to engage student learning, personal growth and life skills development through food and biodiversity gardening, healthy cooking and sharing of food. “We developed the program to assist school communities to enrich their learning environments with outdoor learning spaces, while bringing a focus to practical food education through permaculture gardening principals and wholefood cooking techniques.”

Find out how and why their work is so important for the future of our children, our environment, and why Permaculture Noosa has just become a proud partner of the Living Classroom Project.

Club Night Demonstration

EDIBLE WEEDS – WILD FOOD identification

Demonstrations at Club Night are focused on using easy to grow plants in ways you might not usually consider, and this Thursday will be no different, because weeds are growing in your landscapes already! It doesn’t get any easier than that!!!

At our September Club Night Heidi Merika spoke about using weeds to make healing balms, tinctures etc. …… Now I’ve been carrying on about eating edible weeds for the past 12 years, and it seems this presentation by Heidi really got you all thinking about respecting weeds, and using them for health and healing.

So this month, I’m going to bring in a range of edible weeds so you can go home confident about which weeds you can include in your daily salads, green smoothies, soups, stews, stir-fry meals etc.

I will only demonstrate weeds that are abundant in our local environment, have good flavour, and are EASY to identify once I show them to you.

These plants include, Sida Retusa, Farmer’s Friends/Cobbler’s Pegs, Pink Shamrock, Nodding Top/ Thickhead, Blue Top/Billygoat Weed, Wandering Jew, Weed Amaranth, Purslane, Swamp Dock, Sheep Sorrel, Emilia, Alehoof, Chickweed, Wild Carrot and Blackberry Nightshade.

Including these weeds into your daily diet will strengthen your immune system, make you feel healthier and more vibrant, lessen pain and inflammation, assist in cell rejuvenation, and promote general well being.

At this Thursday Club Night (17 October), I will show you easy ways to identify each weed. I look forward to seeing you.

Permaculture Noosa monthly meetings are held at the Cooroy Memorial Hall on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Doors open at 6pm, when a market takes place where we share surplus home grown produce and plants by giving, exchanging or selling. Usually, there is a 45 – 60 minute keynote presentation as well as  other shorter presentations on various permaculture related subjects.

Entry is a $5 donation for non-members. There is no charge for members. Anyone who has genuine financial difficulties and cannot afford the entry donation will be excused. We will not turn anyone away. The meeting begins at 6.30pm and the night is complete with a “bring a plate” shared supper (gold coin donation) at 8:30pm. All welcome.

See you there……
