April 2024

Galleru Fruit Forest Tour

Following a rain delay in March we were able to get out to the Galleru Native Orchard last week. The wait was worth it. I am sure everyone learned something and the fresh scones, jam and cream were amazing. On the tour we witnessed the great tree planting work that was started 30-odd years ago and continues today. Mature and productive Native Almond trees, Lemon Myrtle, Candle nut and many more were in abundance. Members collected Davidson Plums on the way down the hill and enjoyed a refreshing Davidson Plum Spritz (a stunning drink) at the end of the tour.

June 2024

On June 16 we have a very special Open Garden in Brisbane.

Jerry Coleby-Williams (from Gardening Australia) will open up his demonstration garden for Permaculture Noosa. Starting 20 years ago, Jerry and his partner transformed a contaminated suburban house block into a highly stunning productive garden. His garden regularly appears on Gardening Australia and a real-life demonstration of what is possible in sub-tropical Queensland. This is sure to be an entertaining and informative Open Garden.

Following the visit to Jerry’s garden the bus will call in to Northey Street City Farm for a tour of their well established community garden as well as a BYO lunch. Founded in 1994, Northey Street City Farm is a Green permaculture oasis in the heart of Brisbane. With more than 1500 native and exotic fruit trees, bush food plants, shrubs and groundcovers on the 2.5 hectare site, Northey Street is a demonstration site where people can learn through practical, hands-on experience.

There are only a handful of tickets left, so if you are keen on joining us, book now.
