Brisbane Open Garden Report

June’s Brisbane Open Garden trip was a huge success. Jerry Coleby-Williams entertained us with stories about his journey transforming his 100+ year old queenslander into a one-of-a-kind sustainability demonstration house and garden. Everyone agreed that they were taking home at least one valuable piece of knowledge to use in their gardens.

After foraging for our lunch at Northey Street City Farm, Emma took us on a tour of this hidden gem, in the middle of the city.  Northey Street City Farm has been operating for 30 years and is a wonderful example of how a community garden can survive and thrive. Who knows, the Cooroy Community Garden might look just like theirs in 30 years !

Upcoming Open Garden

Crystal Waters – Sunday, August 11 – 09:30 am

Max completed the first PDC course with Bill Mollison in 1977 and was instrumental in the development of the Crystal Waters Eco Village. Max is going to share 45 years of Permaculture wisdom with us. Warts And All !

We’ll wander through his pecan plantation and honey enterprise while he explains his take on Permaculture. There will be an opportunity to purchase some of his products as well as learning about the Cambodian permaculture project that he supports. After the tour why not check out the Eco Village or head back into Maleny for a look around. The tour will run for 1 – 2 hours.

Meet at the Crystal Waters Store at 09:30 and car pool to Max’s place.
