SUMMARY:OPEN GARDEN – Sunday 10th February 2019
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a tour through Tom and Zaia Kendall’s well thought out Permaculture Garden. \n\n\n\n* Sunday 10th February 2019 (Yes – That’s this coming Sunday!!!) \n\n\n\n* 2-4pm (For a 2pm start) \n\n\n\n* $2 (Permaculture Noosa Members only)  \n\n\n\n* 93 Golden Gully Road\, Kin Kin  \n\n\n\n  (Kendall Permaculture & Permaculture Institute Sunshine Coast Inc.) \n\n\n\n* Any questions call Dee Humphreys \n\n\n\n  (Open Garden Coordinator) 049 775 4486     \n\n\n\nTom and Zaia have been on their Kin Kin property since August 2005. They wanted to make the property a Permaculture property\, and embraced the Permaculture and self sufficiency journey. Starting with an overgrown property with few services\, no gardens\, minimal fencing\, very poor soil and a leaky dam as the only water source\, they have converted the property into a lush\, productive and beautiful piece of land. \n\n\n\nThey produce almost all their own food\, including meat\, dairy\, gluten free flours\, vegetables\, fruit and nuts. They use rocket stoves and gas from the onsite bio-digester for cooking\, run a solar system for most of the electricity needs and have gravity fed water for house and garden use. The site is a Permaculture Demonstration site\, accredited by the Permaculture Research Institute Australia\, and the not for profit organisation the Permaculture Research Institute Sunshine Coast Inc. runs courses and events on site. \n\n\n\nTom provides an educational experience with every tour\, and you will see the food forest\, swales\, kitchen garden\, market garden\, bio-digester systems\, rocket stoves\, animal systems\, the new solar passive house made from local\, natural and recycled materials and much more. Tom will also talk about challenges he encountered during his journey on the property and his problem solving approach. \n\n\n\nAfterwards\, tea\, coffee\, biscuits and watermelon will be available so everyone can relax and enjoy the surrounds\, ask more questions and socialise with newfound friends. \n\n\n\nAny questions call Dee Humphreys – Open Garden Coordinator 0497754486     \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there THIS COMING SUNDAY for a 2pm start! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVeggie Garden\, Maungaraeeda\n\n\n   \n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Permaculture Noosa Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nKeynote speaker Morag Gamble will deliver a presentation on her recent East Africa permaculture trip supporting local permaculture teachers and permaculture programs for women and children in need: \n\n\n\nPermaculture Teachers Make a Difference: Permaculture in East AfricaMorag Gamble of the Permaculture Education Institute (https://permacultureeducationinstitute.org) recently returned from a month volunteering her time in East Africa. For all of December she travelled with her two eldest children (10 &12) to remote parts of Uganda and Kenya meeting local groups\, mentoring local teachers and supporting local permaculture projects that particularly benefitted women and children in need. In places like this\, permaculture just makes so much common sense\, is welcomed and makes an enormous difference. In the month leading up the Permaculture Education Institute’s charitable arm\, the Ethos Foundation (https://ethosfoundation.org.au/)\, raised almost $10\,000 from the permaculture community around the world\, including a $1000 grant from Permafund. Every cent was distributed directly to the communities in need. Morag has also now personally donated $30\,000 of scholarships for young leaders in East Africa to complete the Permaculture Educators’ Program under her mentorship. Many children eat one meal a day so kitchen garden programs in schools are so important. While she was in Uganda\, Morag met with Ministers for Education and Agriculture and is working to support the introduction of permaculture into schools and teacher training. Leonie Shanahan sent over a copy of her book and video to donate\, and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation provided a full set of curriculum to support the development of this.Later this year\, Morag will be returning to Africa and taking people with her as student teachers and volunteers to support more projects. Morag is now a mentor for the African Permaculture Association and an in-country liaison for the International Permaculture Educators Network. She is helping to support the establishment of a locally-led Permaculture Diploma program with the support of the Gaia University and is helping to identify the first iLAND permaculture demonstration centres in the region to receive international support. She also distributed as many copies as she could of the fabulous Tropical Permaculture Guidebook on behalf of its authors and will continue to do so.After teaching on 5 continents for the past 25 years\, last year Morag launched the Permaculture Education Institute to offer a comprehensive\, flexible online program to support new permaculture teachers\, locally and internationally. Her goal is to support people to make permaculture not only their way of life\, but livelihood too. Already there is an extensive student network around the world who are connecting through this program and inspiring each other. Permaculture teachers do make a difference. The world needs more! You can find out more about Morag Gamble through her popular YouTube Channel (https://youtube.com/moraggambleourpermaculturelife.com)\, Blog (https://ourpermaculturelife.com) and new Instagram TV (https://www.instagram.com/moraggamble/channel/)On February 10\, Morag took to the stage with David Holmgren and Costa – and others – to participate in an event she organised at the National Sustainable Living Festival in Melbourne called\, Locavore Living: reclaiming the commons for common good (http://slf.org.au/events/locavore-living/). Morag looks forward to seeing you all at the Permaculture Noosa gathering on February 21 and sharing the value of permaculture and permaculture education in so many contexts – with a particular focus on her recent East African permaculture journey. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMel Hobbins Garden Aug 2018\n\n\n\n Master Gardener Mel Hobbins will present a guide to “Preparing for Cool Season Veggie Planting”. For anybody aspiring to becoming “self sufficient” with veggies this the best chance you have of getting anywhere near that goal. Are you prepared? \n\n\n\nWhether you are new to veggie growing or have been growing your own for many years\, there is always something to learn. Make certain to prepare for the question time segment. Mel has grown veggies for over 60 years\, in UK\, central Africa and now Australia. \n\n\n\nIn UK Mel had Community Allotment gardens most without a water supply. Despite what many think the summers in South East England are pretty dry. Having moved to his Traveston property 14 years ago he has developed an extensive orchard and veggie garden\, is a regular presenter and open garden host and in 2018 ventured back to the “show bench arena”. \n\n\n\nA follow up “Open Garden” will be held in June\, featuring Cool Season Growing and specifically demonstrating successional sowing and how to maximisie production. \n\n\n\nMel Hobbins with wildflowers he propagates on his farm\n\n\n\nDo consider bringing friends or neighbours to our meetings. It’s how we grow the group and may be inspiring to them as well. See you there.\n\n\nAs always\, you will leave the meeting better informed than you were at the beginning!\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPermaculture Noosa monthly meetings are held at the Cooroy Memorial Hall on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Doors open at 6.00pm\, when a market takes place where we share surplus home grown produce and plants by giving\, exchanging or selling. Usually\, there is a 30 – 45-minute keynote presentation followed by other shorter talks on topics such as ‘what to plant this month’\, garden tips and book reviews. Entry is a $5 donation for non-members. There is no charge for members. Anyone who has genuine financial difficulties and cannot afford the entry donation will be excused. We will not turn anyone away. The meeting begins at 6.30pm and the night is complete with a “bring a plate” shared supper (gold coin donation) at 8:30pm. All welcome. See you there…… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Living Bee Cooran 2-4pm
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nLIVING BEE…335 Tablelands Rd. Cooran… \n\n\n\nFay Murphy- After visiting Fay’s property and taking in the view\, which from the house you can see Noosa heads in the distance. We both discussed the difficulties of having a fall earlier in 2017. We all know the frustrations of being not 100%. To know what needs to be done to grow food but the body she no work. \n\n\n\nOur task will be to revamp Fay’s shade-house. It has 3 sectioned beds to top up with new compost. Then cover with straw. A demo of setting up a straw bale garden will be happening. Then to finish the tasks and make for easy walking a sheet-mulched sawdust pathway through the shade-house will happen. Many hands make for light work. \n\n\n\nMy task will be to co-ordinate and demonstrate working as a team in a confined area. A bit like tiling a room. Another experience at helping our members continue food production for daily living…… \n\n\n\nFay has lived on her property since 1993. She attended the very first Permaculture meeting held on the Sunshine Coast. Fay completed her PDC in 1993 with Max Lindegger at Crystal Waters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLIVING BEE. Wednesday 27th February 2019 \n\n\n\nPlace: 335 Tablelands RD. Cooran. \n\n\n\nPN Member: Fay Murphy. \n\n\n\nArrive: 1:45pm \n\n\n\nStart: 2:00pm \n\n\n\nFinish: 4:00pm Cuppa and chat afterwards. \n\n\n\nCarpool if possible. \n\n\n\nMore information contact Val Wilson. 54476278. \n\n\n\nExtras: If you have spare plants of Bush Basil\, marigolds or parsley\, please bring these along. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFay Murphy and Val Wilson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
