Open garden report May 2023

A successful open garden was held at Jim and Julia’s Lighthouse Regenerative Farm on Sunday 7th May. We did some planting, learnt about syntropics and shared some soup afterwards. 17 people attended, many of them new members. It was great to hear about Jim’s journey from conventional agriculture to the regenerative organic model which he now successfully uses. Julia reminded everyone about the profound connection we have with nature and how strengthening this can be truly life changing. We got to see regenerative farming principles in practice. I loved the use of log paths to retain moisture and enhance the fungi and other soil life in adjacent garden beds. The group then got hands on with some planting and even the youngest member of the group got her own planting stick and was an enthusiastic participant. The afternoon culminated with sharing a delicious plate of pumpkin soup, rice and greens straight from the garden to go with the lovely conversations with others in the group. Many thanks to Jim and Julia for sharing their home and wisdom with us!
